How about this for an idea?

What to do with the collection?

I'm sure that there isn't one member of the EG, past or present, that wouldn't like to see the vast historic collection used in a positive manner.  Surely, though, this is a unique problem, and not one for which there is a suitable answer?

Well, I just happened across this wonderful site, and it would appear that enough money has been made from the project to further protect the collection and, in fact, invest in further items.

Maybe the EG has been looking at the wrong field of exerptise to give them advice?

Cross stitch anyone?

I have a feeling that this header will put a lot of you off.  I'm presuming that you think that cross-stitch really doesn't have anything to do with the Embroiderers' Guild.  After all, you've probably done City and Guilds, and maybe even a diploma or a degree.  However, how did you start?  Was there ever a time that didn't have this piece of paper to say that you are suitably qualified?  If you are really truthful I'm willing to bet that there was a time when you were quite happy to cross-stitch.

OK, so it comes (usually) in a kit.  The pattern is there, all the threads too, possibly even a needle.  Thread up and off you go.  So what?  It takes a bit of skill and patience to complete it.  The counting is not that easy - everything has to line up and mistakes show, so there could be a lot of unpicking to do.  Be honest, have you now got the patience to do all that - especially as you have discovered the wonderful 'creative' part of embroidery?

This post was prompted by a comment on the last post.  Trekky, thanks for taking the time and trouble to post.  Whatever you are doing - keep at it.  If you keep looking you will find that there are a lot of really good stitchers out there that haven't done C&G, and I think your stitching is lovely.  This is the sort of thing that needs to be addressed.  The important thing is to STITCH, that's what it's all about.

What are we doing here?

Just to clarify things!  I started this with a wordpress blog, but the polls section was really poor.  So, I've sort of transferred it.  I'll post on both sites, but for the time being the polls are here.  Sor far there are six of them - all in the sidebar.  Please take a moment to vote - and pass the word to as many as possible.  We need feedback from both sides of the 'counter' so to speak.

Thanks in advance

Polls

You'll find the polls in the right hand column. Please take a little time to click the answers that apply. Send your friends along too. Let's get a good idea of the current feelings of members.

What's it all about?

I’ve been a member of the Embroiderers’ Guild for just about as long as I have been interested in textiles. Just lately (well, over the last several years, really) I’ve been more and more concerned at the way things are going. I’m hoping this will start an interaction between members. Please leave comments, and if you join the debate we may be able to get something going. Watch out for polls, it would be good to get some feedback.
